Squarp Pyramid

The Squarp Pyramid

I've ordered the Pyramid and it should be arriving the end of June or the beginning of July. It's a hardware sequencer and I think it will change the way I do music quite a lot. Firstly it will allow me to produce polyrythmically and irrational tracks. That's tracks that contain more than one time signature and are of differing lengths (allowing them to beat against each other over time). Secondly it will allow for live looping  I'll be able to lay down a drum track, then put in a bass line and melodies. All played live, and with live quantising if I need. If this is combined with an audio looper it will really open up live experimentation with my band: Lever Street.

I'll be able to lay down drum beats and keyboard lines using midi and the pyramid, and Paul (the guitarist) will be able to lay down guitar, bass, and vocal loops using the audio looper. And it should all be in time.

I'm quite excited about the Pyramid and can hardly wait for it to arrive.

In the meantime I've been continuing to learn how to use my Blofeld synth module and have uploaded some more wavetables to it. I reckon this and my ultraportable workstation and arranger (the Korg MicroArranger) will be good companions for the Pyramid.

Blofeld Review at Music Radar

I recently bought the desktop version of the Blofeld. It's a great virtual analogue and wavetable synthesizer. I've recently downloaded an editor program that allows you to edit, randomize and also morph the sounds. It's easier than using the front panel of the module.

I've also managed to upload my first wavetable to the synth. This should give me a larger sound palette.

Eventually I'll purchase the sample license that allows you to load user samples. Not this month though!

I must admit that I'm enjoying making sounds on the Blofeld. It's a very versatile synth, and was quite reasonably priced at just under £300. You can get a wide range of sounds out of it, it's very compact, and built like a tank.

First Blog

This is my first blog.

I wanted somewhere where I could post some of my musical production ideas. This is not really meant to be a public blog, but I'm not concerned about it being private either. I'm going to keep a record of my music ideas here. Those ideas might well be melody ideas, or compositional ideas. They might also be production ideas - such as what effects to use. I might also put together some ideas for themes for concept albums too, as well as links to pictures and music.

So here goes....
